The series discusses how and why the methadone treatment system in the U.S. was established, a description of the service and policy landscape, and will also cover methadone-related stigma, and the impact of current events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and delve into patient and provider perspectives. SAMHSA's final rule on methadone: implications for implementation, patient outcomes, and future directions
NCLM partnered with the Yale Program in Addiction Medicine and NYU Langone Health on March 26, 2024, to convene experts—including people with methadone experience, physicians, and policymakers from SAMHSA—to examine SAMHSA’s Final Rule on Methadone, highlighting its regulatory changes, enforcement mechanisms, and implications for treatment facilities, providers, and patients to improve access and outcomes.
SAMHSA'S proposed updates to methadone rules: will these changes do enough?
NCLM partnered with several institutes to convene experts—including people with methadone experience, physicians, and policymakers from SAMHSA. The webinar explored SAMHSA’s proposed methadone regulation changes—the first in 20 years—examining their potential impact on addressing the opioid overdose crisis, expanding methadone access, and integrating perspectives from policymakers, clinicians, and individuals with lived experience.
